Pandemic Outbreak!
2018 marks 100 years since the devastating influenza pandemic of 1918-1919. The risk of new lethal infectious diseases like SARS or avian flu has become a pressing concern today. The workshop discusses current preparations and mitigation plans. Using an online tool participants simulate fictional outbreaks starting in Manchester and rapidly spreading globally.
Come and explore what might happen in a future emergency, how cities might cope and the consequences of measures like quarantine. Historic maps of infectious disease in Manchester from the library visual archive are also on display.
