ESRC Festival of Social Science logoDespite an awareness that the Kashmiri population this is an under-represented community that faces a number of key issues, there is a real dearth of data about their needs. This, in part, arises from the fact that Kashmiri is not an official ethnic minority classification, unlike Pakistani or Bangladeshi, hence they are largely invisible in official statistics.

The event, hosted by Dr Martin Hyde, presented findings from a unique ESRC-funded study into the experiences and expectations of the Kashmiri population living in Rochdale. The event drew on social science research to illustrate the particular issues faced by members of the community, and how this information can help community organisations and service providers to meet their needs.
