The University of Manchester in collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University and the Embassy of Japan in the UK’s Season of Culture 2019-20 bring to you media narratives of gender and identity in Japan. Join a panel of experts to dive into the kaleidoscopic dimensions of living, performing, and wearing gender in Japan, explored through media screenings and pop culture engagement. From anime and manga to films and theatre, there will be an open conversation between speakers and audience both through live social media and interactive discussions.

Refreshments will be provided, along with a great chance for networking with people interested in Japan, gender, and beyond. Come along and discover traditional and new gender embodiments in contemporary Japan, and how this is approached in ground-breaking research!

This event is suitable for everybody, from the age of 16 upwards. No previous knowledge on Japan required!

Contact: The organizing committee at gogenderjapan@gmail.com

The event is free but for catering purposes please book your place here.
